NEW MAINSTREAM OF AGRICULTURE
This essential project of the Institute plans to identify and bring together leaders in food and agriculture in the Northern Plains and Northern Rockies who are committed to food sustainability and security. The purpose is to develop the New Mainstream of Agriculture in the region. With an integrated sustainable food system perspective, the New Mainstream will pursue educational initiatives and public policies related to sustainable agriculture, energy conservation, and/or independence, nutrition, food processing, and distribution.
NORTHERN ROCKIES SUSTAINABLE FOOD MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT
The Institute will carry out an inventory and assessment of the sustainable agricultural, traditional agricultural, and healthy food movements in the Northern Plains and Rockies. The results of this project will help us determine how we best can be a catalyst for food and agricultural integrity in our regions.
NATIVE AMERICAN FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL SUSTAINABILITY
Where appropriate, working through the national Intertribal Agricultural Council (IAC), we will act as a catalyst in creating and implementing new businesses and business models for food productivity and distribution (with resulting energy conservation) in Indian communities.
EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION
To ensure the success of the previous initiatives, the next generation of agriculturalists will need to know how to manage for regional food security, energy conservation, resource stewardship, public health and community responsibility. Through fundraising, research, and bringing together key players, we intend to influence state colleges of agriculture to address these issues.
